Change Management in the Workplace

The term “Change Management” has become very popular the last 5 years. It can mean anything from the controlled identification and implementation of required changes within a computer system, to that of making one’s workspace a happier place. It is the later that excites LifeXchange!

There is a better way to motivate people.

There is a better way to motivate people.

Helping companies to create an environment where less top down management systems are needed to motivate people, but rather allow people to work within their areas of strength and interest, does not only changes the drive of people and make them feel more purposeful, but increases company profit!

It is for this reason that LifeXchange feels privileged to have been given the opportunity to get involved in BKB GrainCo with a Change Management project that is aimed at creating a space for employees where they can feel truly valued, experience trust, improve resilience and, ultimately, not only ensure happier staff, but greater profits!

Rather, help them to understand what value is within the task that needs to be completed.

Rather, help them to understand what value is within the task that needs to be completed.

Institution such as MIT has done extensive research in this field and repeatedly found that financial incentives are only a motivator when one needs to do manual labour without any thinking! If any thinking is required in your day-to-day tasks, financial incentives makes you less creative and less driven!  It has further been found that fear based methods (like written warnings, for example) or any other forms of manipulation (i.e. if you work hard you can win a prize) results in procrastination, slovenly work and creative avoidance. In other words, whenever you as a manager suggests “do this, or else” (something bad is going to happen), a person will do just enough to avoid the “something bad” and nothing more!

But there is a better way to motivate people.

Rather, help them to understand what value is within the task that needs to be completed, create a space where they personally feel valued, and encourage connection between people at work. This way, you will have an unstoppable, high esteemed work force!
